WICT Announces 2017 Best Companies for Women to Work

WICT Press Release

Washington, DC - Women in Cable Telecommunications (WICT) today announced the honorees of its Best Companies for Women to Work, based on results of the 2017 WICT PAR Survey. After each survey is conducted, leading operators and programmers are recognized for their superlative gender diversity efforts according to the survey data collected by Mercer, a leading global consultant on human capital issues. This year, Comcast Corporation ranked highest for operators, while NBCUniversal achieved the top position for programmers, with each earning Platinum status as a Best Company for Women to Work.

The PAR survey gauges gender-related quantitative and qualitative employee data, and assesses the diversity and inclusion practices of participating companies. In all, survey respondents represented an impressive 67.5% of the overall cable workforce. This year marks the fourteenth anniversary and eleventh survey cycle of the PAR Initiative, which is now administered biennially.

Responses to the 2017 PAR survey were used to identify the top MSOs and programmers for women. They are as follows:

The 2017 PAR Best Operators for Women to Work: Comcast Corporation (Platinum), Cox Communications (Gold), Midco Communications (Silver) and Mediacom Communications Corporation (Bronze).

The 2017 PAR Best Programmers for Women to Work: NBCUniversal (Platinum), Scripps Networks Interactive (Gold), Disney ABC Television Group (Silver) and Discovery Communications (Bronze).

WICT will recognize the achievements of the PAR Best Companies for Women to Work at the 2018 WICT Signature Luncheon being held at the New York Hilton Hotel, on April 4.

"We congratulate this year's PAR Best Companies for Women to Work for their exemplary diversity and inclusion practices. Considering all the research that demonstrates the benefits companies gain through strong gender diversity, we understand how important measurement is as part of an overall business strategy," said Maria E. Brennan, CAE, President & CEO of WICT. "We applaud the commitment of time and resources each of our participants dedicated to complete the 2017 survey, giving us the largest percentage of industry representation ever."

WICT gratefully recognizes the Walter Kaitz Foundation for underwriting the PAR survey, as well as our survey partner NAMIC. WICT also thanks each of its chapters for supporting the PAR Initiative year round. The full PAR Executive Report will be released later this year.

About WICT's PAR Initiative

Since 2003, the WICT PAR Initiative has measured the status of women employees in the cable industry based on three main criteria: Pay equity, Advancement opportunities and Resources for work/life integration. A comprehensive advocacy program helping companies to set goals, institutionalize policies, measure progress and achieve results, the PAR Initiative showcases best practices in achieving stronger gender diversity. With a goal to improve diversity metrics for women, the PAR Initiative is supported by all of WICT's local chapters and is underwritten by the Walter Kaitz Foundation. The PAR Survey is administered in partnership with the NAMIC AIM Survey.
